Maxim RevisionSelf-Discipline/Self-Control. Self-discipline and/or self-control can often be arduously sought after for entirely vain and selfish reasons. God is not opposed to self- advancement but He desires that such advancement takes into consideration the welfare of others. The maxims therefore tend to emphasise that a generous attitude be part of our endeavour to be controlled and disciplined. "Meeting obligations is seldom the soft option, but eternally it is the right option." "To be honest is to graciously accept your obligations. On this you will be judged." "A mistake can never be claimed as a human right, when in reality it is a human liability." "To know what is right is one thing, to do it is another." "Actions of right conduct can take much courage and requests for, and acceptance of, My providence and benevolence - My grace." "Good intentions must be of the mind, heart and 'spirit', if you truly intend to put them into practice." "When things go wrong, look at yourself before looking at others." "True self-defence begins with defence against self." "Self-indulgence versus self-denial is the battleground of life." "Never be afraid to be good." "Too often a promising talent is undone by a wild temperament." "Self-discipline is to be preferred to an enforced discipline for it refines talents more effectively." "Never demand to be seen or heard by being a vulgar exhibitionist." "Trial yourself daily by reflection on My Commandments and the delicate balances of life that are to be sought and found." "Train yourself to promote the peace that is found in acts of generosity." "Avoid loud and strong noise, not only because of the damage it does to your hearing, but because it restricts the peaceful rhythm of the mind." "To kerb an inclination to sin is, from a social perspective, to act not only responsibly but generously." "Generosity is not just a giving but a control of ones desire to put self-interest before all other considerations." "Law and order in social life works like this: The more self-controlled order the less obtrusive and overzealous law, the less self-disciplined order the more bureaucratic, overzealous law." "Because order, formed by self-control and true education is hard work, some, prompted by evil, resort to drug abuse in an attempt to escape from this reality." "To prevent bad behaviour from escalating beyond control seek and practise poise." "It takes dedication and practise to be poised for any eventuality." "At times a real measure of strength is silence." "Toying with the affections of others is childish, cruel and selfish. Grow up My children." "The delicate perfection of your spirit and it's sensitivity to the spirit of your God requires the co-operation and discipline of your mind if you are to develop and use your full potential." "Replace all self-justification with true social justice." "Honest trying has much to recommend it. I love the effort of all who step out and up; step up their efforts to please Me."
